Quick, simple way to cook a tuna steak. Pretty tasty. Pretty cheap.
Cost: ~$3.50 a serving
Hardware
- Non-stick pan w/ cover
- Tongs
- 1 tbsp measuring spoon
Ingredients
- 8 oz Ahi Tuna Steak
- Cut it in half so you have two tuna steaks around 4 oz each.
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Whatever’s cheap and good.
- 2 tbsp sake
- Don’t bother with expensive sake, you’re just going to sump this into a hot pan.
- 1 tsp wasabi aioli
- Or S&B Wasabi Sauce, in a pinch.
- Salt and pepper to taste
- You don’t need to go buck wild, just a little kosher salt and some ground black pepper will go a long way.
Preparation
- Cut the tuna steak into two roughly equal portions, pat dry and lightly season with salt and pepper, then refrigerate for 20-30 minutes.
- Heat the vegetable oil a non-stick pan over medium-high heat, then add tuna steaks to the pan. Sear each side until a light brown crust starts to appear on the tuna.
- Pour in the sake and cover, letting the tuna cook for about an additional minute.
- You can flip the tuna over and recover after 30 seconds if you’re feeling saucy.
- Plate with steamed vegetables, drizzle with wasabi aioli, then enjoy!
